Angélique

Bonjour à tous et à toutes.

My name is Angélique, I am from a small town in the mountains of Ardèche in France, although I have now been living in New-Zealand for over 18 years.

After travelling extensively throughout New-Zealand and living in Auckland for 8 years, I moved with my now husband to Hamilton.

I thoroughly enjoy sharing my knowledge of the French culture and language with all. I am really excited to be able through the Alliance Française to give students the opportunity to learn and practice French as well as giving them an insight into the French culture.

Having two young daughters I make sure that I teach them French, that we celebrate French traditions, and also eat a lot of French food! Prior to teaching at the Alliance Française I have been working in tourism, guiding, translations and interpretation, as well as corporate roles.

David

Bonjour,

My name is David. After a Master's degree in French Literature and comparative studies, I worked as a French teacher in High school in France and then became a journalist for a trade magazine. I had different positions until I was the Editor-in-Chief.

In 2013, my family and I took a sabbatical leave around the world. We visited Costa Rica, Thailand, Australia and eventually New Zealand. We loved it so much that we decided to move here and arrived in February 2020, just a few weeks before the first lockdown.

Apart from English, I also learnt German and Spanish. I know a bit of Czech, and I can't wait to learn more about Te Reo Māori. I enjoy anthropology, etymology and linguistics, and I love to share my enthusiasm and knowledge about French language and culture but also its literature and intellectual landscape, its food (I have studied French bakery) and its wine of course!

À très bientôt.

David

Salomé

Bonjour, my name is Salomé. I come from the French town of Le Mans (famous for its motor car race), and have been living in New Zealand for seven years with my French family of four. We initially only came for a year-long visit, but really enjoyed the Kiwi way of life so much that we decided to stay!

I am very passionate about teaching - I teach both my children French at home and have been actively involved in the local French playgroup "Les petits Lascars". I also had the opportunity to provide teaching cover for the homeroom teacher at "La petite Étoile", a French preschool in Auckland.

Alongside teaching, I love to learn, and am currently undertaking Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching at the University of Waikato, as well as working towards my French Government accredited 'teaching French as a second language' (DAEFLE- Diplôme d’aptitude à l’enseignement du Français Langue Étrangère) qualification.

I believe that teaching languages should never be limited to the proficiency in grammar and vocabulary - learning a foreign language is a key to understanding other cultures, and I look forward to sharing my own cultural heritage with my students and to bringing genuine francophone experience into the classroom!

A bientot, j'espere.

Salomé

Steve

Bonjour à tous!

My name is Steve Garratt and I come from New Zealand. I am passionate about foreign languages and did a degree in linguistics and several languages including French, German, Japanese and Maori. I did two of the French papers for my degree at the University of French Polynesia (Université de la Polynésie française) in Tahiti a cultural experience I thoroughly enjoyed.

I love language teaching as it is a joy to help others progress in their language journey as well as a chance to meet people from all over the world. I have five years’ experience teaching second language learners in both China and NZ.
