We offer adult classes at several levels, whether you're just starting out or want to refine your conversation skills. Level Curricula:

These levels will help you to better understand what you will learn and what you can expect from learning French through Alliance Française.


A1 LEVEL

According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, 80 to 100 hours of learning are necessary to obtain Level A1.
Examination offered: DELF A1
-  You can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
-  You can introduce him/herself and others, can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has.
-  You can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly, clearly and is prepared to help.

Self led learning recommendations
We recommend you spend 5-10 minutes of self-led study, which involves:
- Homework
- Reading over the material looked at in class
- Applying concepts seen in class to real-life situations. (e.g. introduce oneself, to spell out names and to be able to give your phone number).

Level A1.1
Units: 0, 1, 2 Recommended home study: 5-10 minutes
What you should know by the end of this level: Learn French basics and greetings
- Master self-introduction: age, occupation
- Prompt others for self-introductions
- Exchange contact information
- Seek and provide directions
- Understand and follow itineraries
- Navigate public transportation, including buses and subway
Main grammar topics:

- Auxiliary verbs: "to be" and "to have"
- Definite and indefinite articles
- Negation
- Present tense
- -er verbs
- Special verbs: être, avoir, aller, prendre, descendre
